Reminiscing

One of the best parts of the day for me was what was called "reminiscing time." This is where someone gives a lesson to the senior on a topic that they think they will be interested in. I thought it would be very difficult to get all of the seniors to pay attention, and participate in the lessons, but it was not difficult at all. For the most part they remained very attentive. On more occasions than one I did find one of the seniors dozing off during the middle of the lesson, but that is not uncommon to find them falling asleep no matter where they are throughout the day. I lead the seniors in a few reminiscing activities throughout my internship. I gave them a lesson on tulips, and also about different transportation methods. I had the seniors tell me about the different types of gardens they grew, and some of the funny stories that come along with gardening. For the different types of transportation, I focused mainly on the different railroads there are. I had some of the men tell me about their experiences working on the railroad, and had the seniors tell me stories of trips they took using trains.
